There are some genres that peak and fizzle out of style and there are other genres that provide timeless pieces of music that transcend generations. Rock and roll is one of those classic genres that always seem to gain new fans while keeping the old. There are many bands that utilize this style of music to create effective songs for rock music fans and new band Edewaard have entered this category with their song “Crazy”. Having formed just this past February, Edewaard has had a very busy year touring and releasing not one, but two albums. Hailing from Eugene, Oregon, Edewaard recently released their second album, ‘Renominom Junction’. If the title of the album doesn’t capture your attention, then the sound of the first single “Crazy” will convince you to give it a listen.
This acoustic guitar driven track is a breakup song for a girlfriend who has turned slightly crazy. “Crazy” is a characteristic rock song with a catchy and memorable chorus, but lyrically, the song could be stronger. However, what the track lacks in lyrical content, it makes up for in singer Edewaard’s vocal talent and the band’s musicality. Edewaard’s low, smoky voice compliments the acoustic nature of the song perfectly. He matches the emotion of the song with his vocal inflections, allowing for a connection that is missing in a lot of popular music today. The melody prompts memories of 90s soft rock and accompanies the smoothness of Edewaard’s voice nicely. The song itself is a wonderful mixture of blues and rock, reminiscent of John Mayer, especially the electric guitar solo after the bridge.
“Crazy” is the type of song that will translate well into a live performance. The backing vocals during the chorus (“I’m not crazy”) will really encourage audience participation. The blues nature of the song gives listeners a nostalgic feeling while the storyline keeps listeners entertained. It is a song that cannot be ignored, especially in a live setting.
“Crazy” has the potential to appeal to a wide variety of audiences. It’s mellow and raw with lyrics many can relate to and a chorus meant to be sung along with by a crowd. “Crazy” is an easy listen from a hard-working and passionate band. It is sure to earn Edewaard a loyal following and give them a chance to stand out among other up and coming rock bands.
